THE STAR ONLINE: There’s certainly something special for car buyers this coming festive season, what with Proton announcing that a new Persona variant is to grace the streets. It’s called the Persona SE (Special Edition), and the car was unveiled on Tuesday night at Cineleisure in Petaling Jaya, exactly a year after the Persona made its debut.

The numerous enhancements should have the young and young at heart drooling, because the Special Edition now packs a more premium and sportier outlook, both interior and exterior-wise. The interior is now dressed in black leather on all seats, extending to the steering wheel, gear knob, arm rest and door panels. The car also gets a newer meter panel, which was first seen in the facelifted GEN2.

An extra-large GPS system is also included in the SE for the driver’s convenience, and is mounted on the windscreen. There’s also cruise control as standard issue on this one. On the outside, the Persona SE is a head-turner, and the styling of the car has been refined with a matching body kit that not only offers better aerodynamics but lends the car a unique fashion statement as well.

The door handles are finished with silver matte paint, and the same hue can be found on the front grille of the car, which is flanked by new stylish head lamps with black bezels. As with other Persona variants, the car is equipped with a 1.6l Campro IAFM engine, and you get ABS with EBD, as well as dual front airbags.

Two new colours are being offered on the SE, and they’re called Brilliant Red and Blue Haze. The premium treatment on the Persona SE, however, does not come at a premium price - for RM59,800 (on-the-road, with insurance) you get a car equipped with a high level of luxury and enhancements. Proton is targeting sales of the Persona SE at 500 units monthly. To date, Persona bookings have totaled 52,112 units since its launch in August 2007, and the car recently won the Frost and Sullivan 2008 Best Model of the Year award.

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr. does not agree with the Communication and Multimedia Commission's move to block access to the Malaysia Today website. He said the Government broke its promise and had openly shown it could meddle with the security of the Internet.

He said in his website, chedet.com, that such an action exposed "a degree of oppressive arrogance worthy of a totalitarian state", and that the Government would soon lose credibility and respect among the people. Dr. Mahathir said that he did not often agree with Malaysia Today and its editor Raja Petra Kamaruddin, whom he said had been sometimes quite irresponsible. However, he said court action had been taken against Raja Petra, who was not above the law.

He warned the Government that although it had the power now, it may one day lose it and this would happen because of the Government's obsession to censor alternative views. "It will blind you to the reality of the situation so that you will continue to do wrong things and the people will reject you totally," he wrote. - THe STaR ONLiNe

P/s: Yup!! Terrible storylines but quite a mind-blowing action packs to cover it up. Fortunately that it was Van Diesel (Toorop) who plays as a 'delivery man' to convert this terrible movie up to its level of acceptance. If isn't of him, I would rather go out and wandering around the Cineplexes. Fuhhh!!! HeHeHe!! OK, the story was about a man name Toorop who has been hiding in places (in Russia) because of his terrorist act in US, has been summoned by Grosky (Russia's gangster) to make an important delivery to New York. The important delivery was to deliver a genetically modified woman (Aurora) whom his mother (the founder of the Neolites group) has sent her since baby to Mongol for the reason of hiding from the other terrorist which seems also interested of having her at the first day she was born in the lab. What she didn't know that inside her body, there was a deadly virus which is ready to be used for the production of mass biological weapons. Everybody is eagerly wanted her because of her precious body. This includes her father too. Toorop also didn't know that he is delivering a deadly virus to a wrong person (which appears to be Aurora's mother after all) which could wipe out New York entirely in just less than couple of minutes. So, that was the slight intro about the movie. There was a lot of anti-climax scenes and for me it was a quite disappointed movie to be watched and not worth of spending your money as well. Finally, these are my personal rating on the movie: OVERALL: 3/5, SFX: 3.5/5, STORYLINES: 2/5

THE STAR ONLINE: PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was sworn in as Permatang Pauh MP at 10.05am Thursday in a brief ceremony in Dewan Rakyat here. Anwar, who turned up for the event in a simple black baju melayu, was accompanied by his wife Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and their daughter Nurul Izzah.

The moment he entered the Dewan, he was instantly surrounded by other Pakatan Rakyat members, including Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang. Anwar Ibrahim swears in at Parliament house in Kuala Lumpur Thursday. However, only three ministers were present in the House for the swearing-in. The swearing-in took place in front of Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.

After the swearing-in, Anwar took his place on the first seat on the Opposition block. Pandikar Amin said he had received and approved an application by the Pakatan Rakyat MPs appointing Anwar as the Opposition Leader. Sepanggar MP Datuk Eric Enchin Majimbun, who is from Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) took the opportunity to congratulate Anwar on his win as he stood up to field the first query in the question and answer session.

Minister in Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz also congratulated Anwar on behalf of the Government when he stood up to reply the first question. He later said that the live telecast of Parliament proceedings is only meant to show the question time and not other matters, which is why Anwar's swearing-in was not aired. Nazri said the opposition should not be over-sensitive about the matter

Don’t worry, say “Transformers” scribes Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman - everything you loved about the movie and more will be in the sequel, which they claim has an even better story. “You want to make a different movie, not just a repeat,” Orci said. “It’s a different kind of film that the last one. It’s not a disaster [movie] paradigm.”

What he means is that “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” won’t have multiple storylines told from different points of view all converging in one place for the climax. Instead, expect a different kind of narrative with a different emotional centerpiece. “A boy and his car was really the emotional thrust of the first movie,” Kurtzman said, “and we felt at the time that that made it a unique way into the story. We knew we couldn’t do the sequel until we had something as equally compelling for it.”

Part of that involves Shia LeBeouf’s character Sam going to college - and getting injured along the way (although not exactly as the actor did in real life). “We didn’t have to reshoot anything,” Orci said, “but we put [an injury] in there. We wanted to make sure that we put it in so he could be protected, because he’s running around a lot and bashing into things, and he needed something to hold it like a sling [after his hand surgery]. So we wrote it into the script to explain it away.”

Orci and Kurtzman won’t explain away the story itself - they want to keep that a mystery, even if they say the movie itself won’t be this time. “The first movie was about the mystery,” Orci said. “I think there’s an expectation that there will be a deeper mythology where the Transformers came from,” Kurtzman said. “The key is not to get so mired in the mythology that it can’t propel the movie forward. We just touched the tip of the iceberg.” - MTV MoVieS BLoG

P/s: Only one good reason they've taken this drastic moves. The published articles regarding on the Najib and Rosmah's uncertainties faith in Islam entitled 'birth as a muslim but praticising Hinduism' and a published letter containing some sort of 'underworld agreement' with 1 company which seems to be terminated soon and seeks for some helps from the DPM for dismissing the termination notice and wanted to serve with this GLC for another certain period (although their services were terribly worse). I would see this as desperate attempts to bury the truth and by using the MCMC act to block the website won't make any goodness at all. In fact, people will look at this situation as a violation of people’s freedom in the world where information is now at your finger tips. Moreover, the termination of any kind of blogs or website regardless whether is a political motivated, personal point of view or etc. without any well acceptable logical reasons, could make people especially from the mid-class citizens to lose their confidence against the government. They aren't learning from their past mistakes on how internet could make a drastic influential against certain voters out there. If it isn't true from what he has posted, just sue him and lets the court do their jobs of identifying which is false and which is true. The more you’re going to censor, the more votes to be transferred to PR!!!

All 21 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country have been ordered by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to block the controversial Malaysia Today website, an industry source revealed. The notices were sent out on Tuesday in accordance with Section 263 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“This means that MCMC is allowed to block any particular website which has committed acts that contravene the local laws of the country, for example, sedition,” the source said. Meanwhile, Malaysia Today editor Raja Petra Kamaruddin lashed out against the blocking of the online portal, saying it was a breach of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) charter. Under the MSC Malaysia 10-Point Bill of Guarantees, it is stated that as part of its commitment to ensuring the success of MSC Status companies, the Government promised to “ensure no Internet censorship”.

“The Government has clearly broken its own promise,” said Raja Petra yesterday. Asked whether he was notified of the reasons of the blocking, he answered no. “I will turn this into a big issue, no doubt. When it is known that the Government has violated the charter, MSC will die. I will personally see to it,” he said. TMnet, the country's biggest ISP, Maxis and Time refused to comment. However, at 11.30pm, a check by The Star found that Malaysia Today has launched a mirror site which can be easily accessed. - THe STaR ONLiNe

We've waited for so long for the last 2 month and now it has arrived officially in Malaysia. I've managed to get 3 out of 4 figures by excluding the Autobot Snarl in spite of its less appealing in the alt mode. So, next stock would be probably in Mid Sept 2008 which is the leader class of Ultra Magnus and Deluxe Sentinel. Due to the next delivery would be in the month of Sept, I do really hope that Hasbro is still retaining its normal price although they've already announced the price hikes in between 10 to 20% starting on the 1st Sept 2008.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has described his triumph in the Permatang Pauh by-election as “the second political tsunami” and said it was the people's victory. “This election has been won due to the commitment and courage shown by the people. “People want change for freedom and justice. They want the economy to benefit all,” Anwar said while addressing supporters after being declared winner of the parliamentary by-election yesterday.

“They have rejected oppression and they are saying they do not want to be taken for granted any longer. “The people have sent a strong message to the Government,” he said, adding that the people have rejected the unfair distribution of the country's wealth. He said his victory brought new meaning to the word “Merdeka”. Anwar added that Pakatan Rakyat was bringing new hope to the people with its reform agenda.

“We will stick to our promise that the price of fuel will be reduced when we form the government.” During a press conference later, Anwar said although the date of his swearing-in was at the discretion of the Speaker, he hoped to be in the Dewan Rakyat for Budget Day. “I have promised the people that I would scrutinise Budget 2009 which will be tabled on Friday and as such, I should be sworn in tomorrow.” With regards to Pakatan forming the government on Sept 16, Anwar reaffirmed that the planned takeover would materialise. - THe STaR ONLiNe

P/s: Sighh!!! Not what I've expected before. I guess that it should be bold and much sportier than the previous chassis design. Do check the picture here.

Perodua today introduced its facelifted Myvi, and the freshened up hatchback features a decent number of revisions and refinements, all of which should help to keep the quarter-million volume seller a winner.

Exterior-wise, the car gets a minor style reworking - at the front, there's a new, beefier looking nose section courtesy of a new hood, with corresponding grille, logo and front bumper in tow. At the rear, there's a new, wider bumper and the styling of the two reflectors on it have been revised. Also, the rear lamp assembly now features the use of LEDs. The car also features the use of new glass, which offer improved ultraviolet rejection, with up to 91% reduction. Inside, while the cabin layout remains pretty much unchanged, the updated vehicle features a new interior colour as well as new seat fabric upholstery, and a new colour Optitron instrument cluster, which features three instrument meters as opposed to the two on the previous version.

Oh, and there's a new entertaiment system to boot - this one is M3/WMA-capable, has a USB port and offers Bluetooth connectability. What else? Well, on the Premium version, you get a shopping hook on the backrest of the front passenger seat, perfect for carrying takeaways, as well as a seat height adjuster. The choice of 1.3l and 1.0l twin-cam DVVT powertrains and auto/manual drivetrains continue as before, but two new body colours have been added, these being Medallion Grey and Caribbean Blue, and join Glittering Silver, Klasik Gold, Ebony Black, Pearl White, Mistik Red and Ivory White in the entire 1.3L variant lineup (the 1.0SR model has all but the special metallic Pearl White as a colour choice).

Prices for the five variant lineup (on the road, with insurance and road tax, in Peninsular Malaysia) are: (a) 1.0 SR (five-speed manual only) - RM38,924 (solid), RM39,447 (metallic) 1.3 SX (five-speed manual) - RM43,400 (solid), RM43,900 (metallic); (b) 1.3 EZ (four-speed auto) - RM46,400 (solid), RM46,900 (metallic); (c) 1.3 SXi (five-speed manual) - RM46,200 (solid), RM46,700 (metallic); (d) 1.3 EZi (four-speed auto) - RM49,200 (solid), RM49,700 (metallic)

P/s: Ahh!! At last...They've called him for the interrogation session. From the report it seems that he wasn't really excited with the interrogation session. Perhaps, he has expected that his case could be considered a 'dull case' with less evidences and strong alibi as well. I hope that he has got some 'lesson' cum 'brain wash' during the interrogation session with the JAWI's officer...HeHeHe!!! Poor kiddo!!! For god sake, please don't ever take another oath!!! It was quite annoying and full of discretion to see this young lad taking the oath inside the Allah house without a proper script and 'Walilallahi'. No wonder nowadays, the name of Allah is just a common verbal for muslims of escaping from being penalised for the allegedly wrongdoing purposes. In fact, by simply taking the oath isn't gonna make you really in the right side if you aren't really dimmed to know what are the consequences afterward and who are supposedly should be taking the swearing to be cursed of lying from the truth. I do really hope that Allah S.W.T will not give any merciful punishment and any remorse as well for those who are simply taking for granted of the Islamic law. May Allah S.W.T shows us the truth from being blind folded by the irresponsible persons who're trying to backstab other innocent peoples...

- MaLaYSiaKiNi ONLiNe

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has received a copy of the police report made by Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan who claimed that the PKR de facto leader had sodomised him. Speaking at a press conference at Yayasan Aman here yesterday, Anwar said there were contradictory statements made in relation to the case and he therefore believed the allegation was aimed at tarnishing his image.

It is learnt that the police report was given to him on Friday. He said he had also seen the first medical report made by a Pusrawi Hospital doctor and was privy to the second medical report. Earlier, Anwar said that swearing on the Quran did not absolve a person of his sin and a Muslim should not make a mockery of the Holy Book by swearing on it. He said he decided to take the alleged sodomy case to the Syariah Court because his honour and dignity were at stake. - THe STaR ONLiNe

The high voltage battery pack on the ISG sits behind the rear seats.

As a part of the transportation arrangements for the ongoing Beijing Olympics, a 50-unit fleet of hybrid vehicles co-developed with Ricardo is being provided by Chery Automobile Company. These vehicles are some of China’s first hybrid vehicles and will go into full production in the months following the games.

Two new vehicles, both based on its existing A5 sedan model, were identified by Chery for the purpose. One is a stop-start hybrid based on a 12-volt Belt Starter-Generator (BSG) linked to 1.6l gasoline engine, itself linked to a five-speed manual transmission. The other is a more comprehensive mild-hybrid based on the same baseline vehicle but instead equipped with a 1.3l gasoline engine and a 12kW crankshaft-mounted 151-volt Integrated Starter-Generator (ISG).

In terms of final fuel economy, the returns are quite impressive: in tests over the ECE Urban drive cycle, the BSG vehicle achieves approximately a 7% improvement in fuel consumption over the baseline product, and it is expected that the improvement will be greater than 10% in real-world urban driving.

For the more complex ISG product, Ricardo developed an integrated hybrid control unit that incorporates the motor drive power electronics, DC to DC converter, and hybrid supervisory and safety functions into one compact package. With its comprehensive mild-hybrid functionality, the ISG-equipped sedan provides a significant increase in performance over the equivalent baseline A5 vehicle fitted with a 1.3 engine; peak power and torque of the ISG-equipped vehicle are comparable with that of a larger 1.6l engine.

Final production calibration and testing of the vehicle systems are still taking place, but the fuel consumption improvement is expected to approach 15% compared to the 1.6l benchmark vehicle. In addition, the system enables engine restart within 200 milliseconds, thus allowing stop-start functionality to be included in the hybrid control strategy. Engineered to exacting European emissions requirements, these new vehicles are due to enter full production shortly and will be available for both domestic Chinese and export markets. - THe STaR ONLiNe

- BeRiTa HaRiaN ONLiNe

#NEWS FROM THE STAR ONLINE: Students will now have to pay only a 1% administration charge for National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the Cabinet had agreed to the new rate at its meeting last week and its effective date was backdated to June 1.

“Students will pay a flat rate of 1% now compared to the 3% levied for first-degree courses and 5% for postgraduate programmes previously,” he told a news conference at his ministry yesterday after chairing the post-Cabinet meeting. Khaled said a flat rate would be less burdensome to students compared to the previous method, which was calculated on a reducing rate basis. “Under the reducing rate, students who did not settle their instalments on time or missed one or two payments ended up paying more.”

He said the new rate would be applicable to new and existing students as well as borrowers who had already graduated but were still paying off their study loans. “For students who obtained loans before the new rate was introduced, their applications will be processed according to the old rate but adjustments will be made once the new system is up and running in December.

“Borrowers who are still studying and those who have already graduated will get fresh loan agreements from January based on the new rate. They will be given one month to choose the new option,” said Khaled. PTPTN currently has 1.04 million borrowers. Khaled also said the new method of calculation was determined after consultations with the National Fatwa Council, which had stated that it was compliant with syariah law.

“We hope that the new rate will encourage more students to pay back their loans promptly. We will also give incentives to those who repay their loans quickly,” he said. Currently, the rate of repayment of PTPTN loans is below 50%. Borrowers have up to 20 years to repay the loans depending on the amount. Khaled also said that PTPTN would give out loans to help students pay for their insurance premiums under the fund.

On Tuesday, students from Masterskill College of Nursing and Health in Kuala Lumpur held a protest over the deduction of insurance premiums from their loan amounts. They claimed that the deductions of up to RM1,300 had resulted in some of them not having enough money for their cost of living expenses. “The situation happened because the students were paying this year for the higher, accumulated insurance premiums introduced last year. “To help these students, PTPTN will offer them a higher loan amount to cover their insurance premiums. However, they will have to repay it later,” he said. The students also turned up at the ministry in Putrajaya yesterday to highlight their plight.

UiTM FoR NoN-BuMi??: "SiSWa UiTM MaHu TeMui KHaLiD SeGeRa' - MaLaYsiaKiNi....

P/s: Mr. Dolah Badawi, wake up from your slumber??? What went wrong Mr. Dolah??? UiTM will be getting 10% non-bumi's students??? Come on, it wasn't a mind-blowing issues here!!! Relax and chill out!!! In fact, it has been happening since 1996 when MARA decided to open up to all 'Maktab Rendah Sains MARA' (MRSM) nationwide to excellent non-bumi students. During that time, the government has ruled out that 10% of the original quota should be given to non-bumi without decreasing the allocated original quota. It means that 10% of the non-bumi's quota will be add up front to the original Malay's student number during the intake. I was a form 4 student at the MRSM Beseri, Perlis and during the registration day, I was stumbled upon a few numbers of non-bumi's students wandering around in the hall searching for something. I wasn't quite sure until we went for the orientation session and the official announced that we're getting 10 non-bumi's students for this year onwards. That was strange!!! Anyway, we have been told that not just our school, but other MRSM as well. None of the reasons were given by the MARA's official. So, what's the big deal of having just 10% non-bumi's students now at the UiTM (they've successfully allocated in the MRSM), when the policy has been implemented before this. It was quite awkward to see a sudden movement by the UiTM's students and staffs to dismiss the proposal by gathering in a huge crowd in front of Selangor's SUK building to protest the so called 'proposal' in which they were consciously know that it has been implemented for the past 10 years. I might guess that Tan Sri Khalid proposal was in line with the moves implemented by MARA recently by opening the MRSM's enrolment to the non-bumi.
